How To Hypnotize

How Hypnosis Affects Your Mind

by Peter Saks on October 23, 2009

As I've mentioned in previous article, the only thing we are certain that happens in hypnosis, is the fact that we become very suggestible. This is possible mostly because, in trance you are able to focus your attention on only one thing.

If I would tell you, you are a duck, you would compare this information to what you know about yourself and respond that: "I got to be joking." However in hypnosis, you are unable to process two thoughts at once so, the only thing you would be thinking of, would be the fact, you are a duck.

As expected in majority of cases this would lead to you acting like a duck...

You are probably aware that human mind is split into two different parts, conscious and unconscious. Conscious is the one you take all of your decisions with and you often find yourself talking to.

The unconscious part is the one taking care of your body: breathing, beating of your heart and other things required for your survival. You can't control it. If you would be able to switch between conscious and unconscious, you would probably go mental. Your mind wouldn't stand  being aware and taking conscious care of all the processes in your body.

But, this means you are unable to directly communicate with your unconscious part of mind as well as it isn't able to communicate with you.

You can compare conscious part of your mind to monitor and keyboard of the computer, and unconscious to the processor. Processor is taking care of all the hard and strenuous tasks and allows you to enjoy easy to digest visual interface you know.

However, sometimes subconscious can give you clues. It usually happens in dreams and through so called "gut feeling". But, in majority of cases this communication is very hard to decode and most of the people don't pay too much attention to it.
