How To Hypnotize

"Trying" To Hypnotize Others

by Peter Saks on May 7, 2009

Hi,
in this article we will take a deeper look at the word "try" and its hypnotic characteristics. Most of the people associate this word with something positive, often thinking it is incredibly motivational.

In order to understand techniques in this article you have to find out something about unconscious mind. Are you ready for that mindboogler? Here it comes: "It does each command it gets very precisely, just like a computer.". Not impressed? In a second you will be. I will show it to you on an example:

Imagine a cup and fill it with tea.

Now the second example:

Imagine a cup and try to fill it with tea.

If you have done everything right, in the first example you should have been able to effortlessly imagine a cup that has been first empty and then filled with tea. However in the second example most of the people wouldn't be able to fill the cup with tea. Why does it happen?

As I mentioned earlier unconscious mind does all the commands very precisely. So in the first example it has imagined the filled cup and in the second one it has tried to imagine the filled cup. Every human older than five is aware of the fact that trying is not equal to completing a task, therefore by putting try in front of the fill, you weren't able to imagine the tea in the cup.

Many people have a tendency to overuse word "try" in their statements. By doing so they are sabotageing their own actions. They end up trying things rather than doing them. To help you understand this hypnosis concept, more fully, I will give you a real world example:

Let's say you are a salesman and you are persuading a customer to buy your newest cleaning product. While you are presenting your service your client suddenly says:

"Okay, it all sounds great, but other producers offer very similar products."

How would you respond to such a statement? One way is saying something like this:

"Well, maybe others are offering similar product, but they are worse than ours."

This is something you would expect to hear, however it doesn't make you feel convinced. It may also sound unprofessional because you are criticizing your competition, in order to make a good impression. Much more effective would be saying something like this:

"Yes, I know others are offering similar products, so I welcome you to try to find something that will suit your needs, before you will decide to buy our product."

This is what hypnotic persuasion is about, first you agree with your costumer and then challenge him to try to find product similar to yours. However by using word "try" you have programmed his efforts for failure, leaving him with only one choice, buying your product.

As you can see, word "try" is a very powerful conversational hypnosis tool. If you will master it, you will benefit greatly. So try to not think how can you use it in your life.
